FSTest Formaldehyde Rapid Test Kit
Product Overview
The FSTest™ Formaldehyde Rapid Test Kit is a colorimetric assay designed for the rapid semi-quantitative determination of toxic formaldehyde in water-soaked foods, their soaking liquids, and fresh vegetables. Under alkaline conditions, formaldehyde extracted from samples reacts with AHMT and undergoes subsequent oxidation to form a purplish-red compound. The resulting color intensity directly correlates with formaldehyde concentration, allowing easy visual reading against the included colorimetric card without requiring specialized analytical instruments.
Key Benefits
· Expanded Matrix Compatibility: Optimized for water-soaked foods (seafood/tripe/bamboo shoots), soaking liquids, and a wide array of fresh vegetables.
· Simplified Vegetable Workflow: No centrifuge or vortex mixer required for vegetable samples—simple hand-shaking and standing produce ready-to-test extraction solution.
· Low Limits of Detection: Achieves high sensitivity with a detection threshold of 0.2 ppm for liquid samples and 2 ppm for solid samples.
· Visual & Semi-Quantitative: Enables rapid visual concentration assessment via a color-matching card within a 12-minute total reaction time.

Applicable Sample Types
· Water-Soaked Foods & Liquids: Silverfish, squid, beef tripe, bamboo shoots, and their soaking liquids.
· Fresh Vegetables: Chinese cabbage, baby Chinese cabbage, lettuce, enoki mushrooms, garlic scapes, yardlong beans, cauliflower, broccoli, and related leafy/floret produce.
Test Procedure
Step 1: Reagent Preparation
Add 21mL Formaldehyde Reagent E into Formaldehyde Reagent D bottle, dissolve thoroughly (ultrasound recommended), and use within 6 months.
Step 2: Sample Extraction
Liquid Samples: Use clear liquid directly (filter if turbid).
Vegetable Samples: Cut 1g of exposed vegetable parts (e.g., base of leafy greens) in large pieces into a 15mL tube. Add purified water to 10mL, shake for 2 min, let stand for 5 min, and use supernatant.
Water-Soaked Foods: Weigh 1g bamboo shoots or 2g tripe/squid/silverfish into a 15mL tube. Add purified water to 10mL, vortex for 1 min, let stand for 5 min. Add 1mL Reagent A and 1mL Reagent B, vortex, centrifuge at 4000 r/min for 5 min (or filter), and use supernatant/filtrate.
Step 3: Assay Execution & Reading
Pipette 2mL extraction solution into a 5mL tube. Add 0.4mL Reagent C and 0.4mL prepared Reagent D, mix well, and let stand for 7 min. Add 0.1mL Reagent F, mix well, and let stand for 5 min. Immediately compare color with the standard colorimetric card.
Performance & Validation
The FSTest Formaldehyde Rapid Test Kit delivers semi-quantitative visual screening based on AHMT color intensity.
Sample Matrix Category | Limit of Detection (LOD) |
Liquid Soaking Samples | 0.2 ppm |
Solid Food Samples (Vegetables / Soaked Produce) | 2 ppm |
Result Interpretation:
Place the reaction tube horizontally on a sheet of white paper and slightly elevate the capped end with a pen or similar object. Compare the developed color with the supplied colorimetric card. If the color falls between two color blocks, use the midpoint of the two concentrations to minimize false-negative risks.
